Good morning…

“We were asked to look around the room and record in our minds everything red,” she explained. (For example: red paint, red candle, red pillow, red flower.) “Next,” she said, “we were told to close our eyes. After a few moments, we were instructed to remember anything in the room that was blue.”

Red. Red is fire, blood, danger. Stealing our focus, red enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure. Blue. Blue is sky, sea, spaciousness. Filling our minds, blue positively affects us, invoking rest, producing calm, slowing metabolism.

Shades of red and blue exist in every room, in every person, in every situation. Out of fear we self-protect, training our mind to see only red.

Later on that day, the disciples had gathered together, but, fearful of the Jews, had locked all the doors in the house. Jesus entered, stood among them, and said, “Peace to you.” Then he showed them his hands and side.

The disciples, seeing the Master with their own eyes, were exuberant. Jesus repeated his greeting: “Peace to you. Just as the Father sent me, I send you” (John 20:19-20, MSG).

Gathering likeminded together, fear locks us down. Jesus enters, stands among us, and helps us to notice the blue in each room, the blue in each person, the blue in each situation. As Jesus was sent by the Father, we too are sent to enter into the world. With Jesus we stand among others, repeating his greeting, “Peace to you.”
