Good morning…
I looked out my window and I saw eyes staring back at me. In the middle of the day from three feet away, dark eyes locked with mine. Eyes, no neck, and perfectly quaffed feathers, an eighteen inch owl was perched on my porch.
We looked at each other for a very long time. Motionless. Peaceful. Soul to soul somehow. When the creature was ready, the beautiful bird flew away. I have never seen an owl up close. Will I ever see her again?
I lifted a long prayer of gratitude then walked to my computer to type: “What do owls symbolize?”
Wisdom. Mystery. Transition. Messages. Intelligence. Mysticism. Protection. Secrets. Foresight. Keeper of sacred knowledge.
The owl is a great foreteller of changing weather, with a keen ability to see at night. I learned that nocturnal animals, to whom I totally relate, possess their own symbolism. Dreams. Shadows. Otherworldliness. Secret knowledge.
Amid my first week of teaching Bible study daily in my home, what God-message did I sense in the presence of this creature?
I will give you hidden treasures,
riches stored in secret places,
so that you may know that I am the Lord,
the God of Israel, who summons you by name (Isaiah 45:3, NIV).
