moon

Good morning…

As the light of the moon thickens in the sky, we sense the presence of the Almighty God.

In the morning, the conclave will begin the process of electing the 267th Pope, following the death of beloved Pope Francis. The Holy Spirit will lead this secretive process, drawing a two-third-plus-one majority vote from among the 133 cardinals gathering from throughout the globe. There will be one vote of the assembly today, followed by four votes over the next two days — two in the morning and two in the afternoon. The process of voting will continue until one name receives the majority necessary. At that time, the color of the smoke erupting from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel will change from black to white, announcing to the world, “We have a new Pope.”

This large chapel full of diverse, faithful followers of Christ will seek to live the encouraging words of Paul. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace (Ephesians 4:3, NLT).

On the plane ride home from visiting my parents in Ohio, I watched the movie Conclave, learning a bit about the private process of electing a new pope. I was intrigued by the opening speech given in the movie, before the first votes were cast.

As we watch this short movie clip, what wisdom might we glean as our faith walks hand-in-hand with our doubt, intuiting the lead of God’s Holy Spirit?
