Good morning…
I will never forget a boy named Corey. Trained as a play therapist and counseling in a non-profit agency in New Oxford, PA, I first met Corey as a scared five year old who was hiding beneath the glass coffee table in our waiting room. Loved deeply by his mom and abused harshly by his dad, Corey had a lot of healing to do. Corey and I met together most weeks for over two years. During one session near the end of his treatment, we shared an experience I remember vividly.
On a winter day, Corey’s play method of choice was to go outside into the chilly, windy two feet of snow. Donning our thick coats and our much needed snow boots, Corey gave this instinctual instruction: “I will lead. You stay close behind. If you follow me, I will know which way to go.”
So, we pushed out into the wild winter weather, Corey leading, me two boot prints back. We trekked out the door, up the hill to our right, and all the way around the warmly heated building. Circling back to the front door, Corey burst with delight, “We found our way home. We finally found our way home.”
During our sacred time together, Corey grew from a frightened young boy to a self-assured person who had found his way back to the warmly heated home God had handcrafted inside him. About five years ago, I got an email from Corey. I never asked how he had found me several states away. He was getting married and he wanted to share with me pictures of him and his fiance. It was time now for them to heat together their own home with the love of our LORD.
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it,” Isaiah 30:21 (NIV),
