eyes-gaze

Good morning…

On a walk and talk one morning this week, I listened to a friend express concern over these troubling times. Then I was surprised to hear myself say, “We just need to gaze at God. We can glance at the world’s unrest, but we need to keep our gaze on God.”

Then, before noon, I talked by phone to another friend and God’s Spirit revealed more insight.

“We need to train our gaze on God. Notice God in all places. Look for God in all people. Continually focus on God’s presence with us, our unconditionally loving God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. As we gaze at God, God guides our eyes, inspiring us to glance at the parts of the world in need of our personal care. Even our glancing at the world is guided by the God upon whom we gaze. Regardless of what is happening around us, as we keep our inner eyes trained on God, we will feel peace, stability, and the growth of God’s Spirit in our inner being.”

During these unsettling times, as we rest our gaze on God, we let the Almighty do the rest. And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured… being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7, AMPC). As we gaze at God, God’s tranquil peace spreads in our hearts, spreads in our minds, before spreading quietly through us to heal the world.

In an ah-ha moment, my friend replied, “As we gaze at God, we become super spreaders of God’s peace!”
