Good morning…

As I taught class, wisdom broke the surface of my lips: “We would not scold a spring bulb for failing to pop from the soil more quickly. Why do we scold ourselves for not being further along in our spiritual progress?” Invisible to the eye, bulbs are experiencing significant movement, day after day, tucked six inches deep down in the dirt. Establishing first a strong root system is essential to sustain future blossoming. I am certain that our Creator, seeing beneath life’s surface, celebrates small increments of growth with each and every bulb.

My comment was sparked by Paula D’Arcy’s insight on page 15 of Gift of the Red Bird. “Fruitfulness can never be measured by activity. Whether or not I was aware of it, I was always ‘on my way.'”

Friends, we are all “on our way” to becoming the unique person God designed us to be. Often invisible to the naked eye, we are experiencing significant movement down deep in our soul. Establishing first a strong root system is essential to sustain our future blossoming. I am certain that our Creator, seeing beneath the surface of our skin, celebrates small increments of growth within each and every one of us. “We would not scold a spring bulb for failing to pop from the soil more quickly. Why do we scold ourselves for not being further along in our spiritual progress?”

It’s not the one who plants or the one who waters who is at the center of this process but God, who makes things grow, 1 Corinthians 3:7 (MSG),
