Good morning…
During times of discombobulating stress, a helpful saying saturates me. “The brook would lose its song if God removed the rocks.” We hate the hard knocks from life’s jagged rocks, but we love the calming beauty babbling from the brook.
Stones and songs. Songs and stones. We do not get one without the other.
Stones and songs. Songs and stones. Both invite us to rest, restore, refresh, in sync with the rhythm of our Redeemer.
Stones and songs. Songs and stones. God’s blessing in our stressing is a crisp mountain stream, trickling through, tickling our quiet ears.
Capturing my attention, another favorite sentence now bubbles up. “Between all the givens is freedom.” The rock bed of our lives is littered with “givens.” This hard need. That solid responsibility. Each God-given “yes” is ours to embrace. Yet between all the boulders, both big and small, God freely is. Our God is. Our God always is. God’s powerful presence always is, peacefully passing in, through, around us, singing our Savior’s soothing song. Fluid. Endless. Unstoppable. The love of our living LORD runs forever, through everything, everyone.
Moment by moment, will we focus our eyes on God’s saving stream, mesmerized by the music of our Maker’s melody?
And how blessed all those in whom you live, whose lives become roads you travel; They wind through lonesome valleys, come upon brooks, discover cool springs and pools brimming with rain! God-traveled, these roads curve up the mountain, and at the last turn…God in full view! (Psalm 84:5-7, MSG).
