grief

Good morning…

In our therapeutic community group at PAWkids last Tuesday, we used watercolor paints to bring this poem to life.

Grief Is Like A Snowflake…

sometimes it comes

one flake at a time;

other times,

it comes like

a blizzard.

It melts away,

but it always comes back.

Just as each snowflake

is unique, each person

experiences grief

in their own unique

way.

One friend painted a gorgeous snowflake tree, melting to nourish organic new growth. The snowflake I painted ended up on the doorstep of my neighbor. I gifted it to her, along with the poem, as she is grieving the loss of her fourteen year old dog, Chief.

AI tells us: “Snowflake symbolism centers on uniqueness, as no two are alike, representing individuality, authenticity, and divine artistry, alongside themes of purity, transformation, and new beginnings due to their white color and winter cycleThey also symbolize fragility, interconnectedness, and the cyclical nature of life, appearing in religious contexts as signs of God’s design or the cleansing power of grace.”

Grief also centers on our uniqueness. No two people grieve alike. Each process of grief is individual, authentic, a transformative new beginning. We melt into God’s divine artistry. Wintering through grief together, we experience fragility, interconnectedness, and the cyclical nature of life.

Snowflakes and grief are signs of God’s eternal design, offering to all the cleansing power of grace.

I do want to point out, friends, that time is of the essence. There is no time to waste, so don’t complicate your lives unnecessarily. Keep it simple—in marriage, grief, joy, whatever… This world as you see it is fading away (1 Corinthians 7:29, 31, MSG).
