Good morning…

Grieving great loss, she slowly read aloud to me the Scripture sustaining her.

“When I think of all this,” she said softly, “I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

“Now all glory to God,” her voice picked up strength, “who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 3:14-21, NLT).

Together, we quietly examined the unlimited resources God grows in us as we grieve great loss.

  1. We fall to our knees and pray to our Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.
  2. God empowers us with inner strength through his Spirit.
  3. Christ makes his home in our hearts as we trust in him.
  4. With our roots growing down into God’s love, we are kept strong.
  5. We are given the power to understand the wide, long, high, deep love of Christ.
  6. We experience the love of Christ, a love too great to fully understand.
  7. We are gradually made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
  8. God is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
  9. All glory is given to God, in the church, in Christ Jesus, through all generations, forever and ever.

When we face great loss, unlimited resources are given to us as we grieve with God. Inner strength of the Spirit. Christ at home in our heart. Deep roots in God’s love. Fullness of life and power for all generations.
