Covid-testing

Good morning…

So so so many of you reached out to ask, “Where did you get your COVID test done?” So, I figured I would do an informative post about what to do if and when you or a family member want to get tested for coronavirus.

First off, our family of six has had a lot of varied experiences in this area this summer, so we have put in lots of legwork trying to learn how to get tested in our area (if you are not from Atlanta, you will need to do the same near your hometown).

Rapid Test Results: Our rapid tests have been done through Peachtree Immediate Care. I must warn you that now they are doing appointment only and it is really, really hard to get an appointment time. You have to stay on the website, checking out open slots in surrounding counties and snag any slot that comes available. It took my husband and me a full day and a half of checking the website, refreshing, refreshing, refreshing the page until two slots eventually popped up. Scheduling a COVID test nowadays in the not for the weary, the impatient, or the non-technical among us.

I just read today that these sites are not scheduling weekend appointments, which further reduces down the chances of getting a timely test.

Two-Day Tests: We have connected to the services of a doctor friend nearby.

Genesis Healthcare Associates
3200 Highlands Parkway Suite 250
Smyrna, GA 30082

Please call in advance to schedule and be screened for the testing type needed. (770)434-1904.

The challenge with two-day tests now is that they are so backed up in their processing of the nasal swab samples that we are on day number eight and we still haven’t gotten our COVID test results.

CVS Self-Swab: A friend of mine sent me the picture above of her “appointment” at a CVS nearby, which is a drive-through where you follow instructions and swab yourself. I am not sure how long it takes to get these results, but check it out if you are interested.

As we return to the work setting, the school environment, and the church buildings, and fall viruses pick up as they normally do, we all may face this question, “Is this a cold, the flu, or is this COVID?” We are wise to know what to do. It will do us good and provide respectful care for those around us if we are willing to put in the diligent work of get tested for COVID when we come down with symptoms or if we know we have be exposed to someone who tests positive for symptoms. Some settings may require that we receive a negative COVID test result before we are able to reenter contact with others.

COVID testing has been an emotional rollercoaster our family has ridden all summer long. I hope what we have learned may somehow help you, your family, and your loved one.

Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have the habit of doing. Rather, let us encourage each other… (Hebrews 10:25a, EHV). Let us encourage each other as begin to meet together, face to face, in a safe, loving way, respectful of the needs of all in our community, especially those most vulnerable among us.
