How Might I Worship?

Good morning…

In our women’s Advent retreat schedule, at 5:00 pm Saturday night there was a communion mass to which we were all invited. Privately, my spirit wondered, “What time is sunset?” I love to do a photo shoot with the setting sun whenever I am at Ignatius House Retreat Center, so I googled “When is sunset in Atlanta?”

The answer came back: “5:21 pm.”

So I hit a dilemma. God and I had a decision to make. Communion mass or commune with the setting sun?

As you can see from the photo above, the Holy Spirit drew me outside and into a love fest.

There are so many ways to worship the living Christ. Sometimes we turn off our hearts and forget to ask, “God, how would you like to spend the hour communing with me?” Often we do things by rote routine and we forget to consult God with our choices.

The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught” (Isaiah 29:13, NIV).

Jesus reiterates God’s concern expressed in the Old Testament. Frauds and hypocrites! Isaiah described you perfectly when he said: “These people honor me only with their words, for their hearts are so very distant from me. They pretend to worship me, but their worship is nothing more than the empty traditions of men” (Matthew 15:7-9, TPT).

As Christmas Eve nears, might you honestly ask God, “This Advent season, how would you like me to worship the baby Jesus born anew with us?”
