after-study

Good morning…

After being moved by yesterday’s quote, we asked a helper to run six copies, one for each of us to take home. On the copied page lived another set of wise words, words written by Frank Laubach (1884-1970) in Letters by a Modern Mystic.

“I feel simply carried along each hour,” writes Laubach, “doing my part in a plan which is far beyond myself. This sense of cooperation with God in little things is what so astonishes me, for I never have felt this way before. I need something and turn around to find it waiting for me.”

“I must work to be sure,” Laubach continues,” but there is God working along with me. To know this gives a sense of security and assurance for the future which is also new to my life. I seem to have to make sure of only one thing now, and every other thing ‘takes care of itself,’ or I prefer to say what is more true, God takes care of all of the rest.”

To Laubach, this “only one thing now” becomes clear: “My part is to live this hour in continuous inner conversation with God and in perfect responsiveness to His will, to make this hour gloriously rich. This seems to be all I need to think about.”

Go to work in the morning and stick to it until evening without watching the clock. You never know from moment to moment how your work will turn out in the end. Oh, how sweet the light of day, and how wonderful to live in the sunshine! Even if you live a long time, don’t take a single day for granted. Take delight in each light-filled hour, remembering that there will also be many dark days and that most of what comes your way is smoke (Ecclesiastes 11:6-8, MSG).
