Good morning…
Christmas is just three quick days away. “How will I ever get all this done?” To discover the Bible’s calm, clear answer, we are drawn back to the Mary and Martha story (Luke 10:38-42).
1) We must remember: Jesus is traveling in our neighborhood today. Let’s welcome him into our home. The Lord and his disciples were traveling along and came to a village. When they got there, a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home.
2) Instead of disconnecting from God and frantically trying to accomplish our tasks alone, let’s ask, “Lord, what should I do first? Then what? What next?” What we sense from God we do step by step, listening attentively throughout our day. She had a sister named Mary, who sat down in front of the Lord and was listening to what he said.
3) Worry means “to choke.” When we worry, we choke out peace, we choke out God’s voice. Our worry skyrockets when we take our focus off of holy listening, turning our to do list into our god. Martha was worried about all that had to be done.
4) We spew our anxiety and bark angrily at others when we disconnect from God, chaining ourselves to “all that has to be done.” Finally, she went to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it bother you that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to come and help me!”
5) The Lord will answer us, making clear the one necessary thing: “I will guide your day if you listen and my wise peace will lead and last.” The Lord answered, “Martha, Martha! You are worried and upset about so many things, but only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen what is best, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel, Philippians 4:7 (CEV),
