Good morning…
I was deeply touched by the song performed at the celebration of life for twenty-eight year old, Eliza. When I got home from the reception following the service, I googled the song title and found the music video below, performed by the original artist sitting at the piano, staring ahead, and singing through her own dark valley of blindness.
Now I’m drawn to Psalm 60:1-3 in The Passion Translation, Bible verses which bear the heading Has God Forgotten Us?
God, it seems like you walked off and left us!
…O Lord, we plead, come back and help us as a father.
The earth quivers and quakes before you, splitting open and breaking apart. Now come and heal it, for it is shaken to its depths. You have taught us hard lessons and made us drink the wine of bewilderment.
We drink the wine of bewilderment as we mourn the death a vivacious, young bride of just six weeks.
God have you walked off and left us?
This morning, it feels fitting to experience together the rich gifts of this talented young singer who is walking through her own pitch black valley with God. O Lord, in these sacred moments, we listen for your healing as we are shaken to our depths.
Please come back to help us as a father.
