Good morning…
“I’m feeling very stretched,” a friend texted me yesterday. I could relate. I could totally relate. In a weird way this mid-December week reminds me of the Christmastime I was nearly nine months pregnant. Then and now I feel stretched beyond my comfortable capacity, like I want to jump out of my bursting skin!
Romans 8:22-25 (MSG) relates. These verses totally relate.
All around us we observe a pregnant creation. The difficult times of pain throughout the world are simply birth pangs. But it’s not only around us; it’s within us. The Spirit of God is arousing us within. We’re also feeling the birth pangs. These sterile and barren bodies of ours are yearning for full deliverance. That is why waiting does not diminish us, any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting. We, of course, don’t see what is enlarging us. But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy.
This gray winter day, the Spirit of God is arousing us within. Our stretching skin is embodying both the difficult times of pain and the enlarging joy of expectancy. Like waiting for new birth after nearly nine long months, might we put up our feet more often and keenly remember the life-giving nature of breath.
Breathe slow.
Breathe deep.
Breathe
more aware
of each
passing
breath.
Don’t be afraid…what has been conceived…is from the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:2ob, ISV).
