Good morning…
I visit the moon again tonight, one day past full. Into the thick, soupy clouds the light is slowly draining. In these dark, wee hours, I feel drawn to revisit an email I received from a friend in Jacksonville yesterday.
“Good morning Sue,” she wrote. “I was outside with the dog when I noticed this large pink moon rising over downtown! (Abby!) It was so peaceful watching it rise and change color. Later when it was dark, my husband and I went outside and we sat for 15 minutes just admiring the peaceful spotlight it created. I have learned in this season of harder things to look up more than I ever have, and it truly renews my spirit and changes my perspective. Xo.”
The reason she wrote (Abby!) is that we share a dear friend whose daughter battled neuroblastoma from age two and a half until she went to heaven at age seven. Abby loved everything pink and purple, decking herself out in these colors each day. Since her passing, whenever we see pink or purple lighting up the sky, at dawn or at dusk, we trust that Abby is sending us peaceful love from above.
We all go through “seasons of harder things.” Don’t we? Maybe we will learn to follow the wise lead of my Florida friend.
Go outside.
Sit still.
Admire peace.
Look up.
Renew spirit.
Change perspective.
Those who inhabit the boundaries of the earth are awed by Your signs, strong and subtle hints of Your indelible presence. Even the dawn and dusk respond to You with joy (Psalm 65:8, VOICE).
Though we all experience “seasons of harder things,” might we also feel moments of joy as we savor hints of God’s indelible presence? The Almighty is making marks within us that cannot be erased, removed, or washed out. God’s strong and subtle gifts, received in awe, are impossible to eliminate, forget, or change.
Let’s develop the art of awe.
…Sue…
