Good morning…
A dear friend regularly reminds me when the full moon is about to burst on our scene. I got this month’s text about the December 4th moon when I was up in the middle of last night, writing our blog about resting while God works.
“Thanks for the full moon update,” I replied. “God is already reminding me, quietly, with the bright light sneaking through the shutters above our tub right now.” I snapped the silent photo above at 2:49 am and shared it happily with my friend.
I made myself a mental note, “Check out the full moon tomorrow night.”
Then I naturally forgot about it.
I forgot until God reminded me during happy hour tonight. The huge moon began rising above our neighbor’s roof, much like the sun slowly peeks above the horizon each morning. I went out in our front yard and took a picture a 6:22 pm.

Waking to write again in the dark, I dive in deeper now. An AI overview tells me, “Tonight, December 4, 2025, is the full moon, officially peaking at 6:14 p.m. EST. This December full moon is also known as the Cold Moon. While the peak occurs in the early evening, the moon will appear full to the naked eye for the night before and the night after its peak.”
Last night, I noticed the full moon’s light on our bathroom floor. Tonight, I saw the moon a few minutes past its official peak. I will enjoy the fullness of light tomorrow night too, before the moon begins to wane.
“All in all, the moon is a truer mirror for my soul than the sun that looks the same way every day,” writes Barbara Brown Taylor in Learning to Walk in the Dark: Because Sometimes God Shows Up at Night. I totally agree with Barbara.
Now, like clockwork just past 2:00 am, I hear the bark of our young puppy, Cami. She usually wakes once a night to relieve herself, and tonight the disruption gives me another opportunity to photograph this Cold Moon in its rich fullness.

As I head back inside, tuck Cami in her pen, and snuggle back into bed for my second sleep, I trust God to continue to work, with my soul and with the moon, as I drift again to rest.
Call Him good, my soul, and praise the Eternal. I am here to declare my affection for You, Eternal One, my God. You are indeed great—You who are wrapped in glory and dressed in greatness. For covering, You choose light—Your clothes, sunset and moonrise. For a tent, You stretch out the heavens; for Your roof, You pitch the sky (Psalm 104:1-3, VOICE).
