Good morning…

The whole room pulled off a great surprise as we celebrated a milestone birthday with our friend. Nearing the meal’s end, she spoke words of raw, real thanks and owned with her eloquent voice an inspiring poem she had discovered just that day.

“The second half of my life will be black to the white rind of the old and fading moon,” she shared her truth with those who love her best. “The second half of my life will be water over the cracked floor of these desert years. I will land on my feet this time, knowing at least two languages and who my friends are. I will dress for the occasion, and my hair shall be whatever color I please. Everyone will go on celebrating the old birthday, counting the years as usual, but I will count myself new from this inception, this imprint of my own desire.” (Joyce Sutphen’s Crossroads, poets.org)

Black and white. Water and desert. Languages and friends. Dress and hair color. We all count ourselves new from the inception this moment, strengthened anew to fully actualize the God-given imprint of our own desire. Our desire weds God’s desire as we embrace the second half of life.

Isn’t aging glorious?

Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you (2 Timothy 1:14, NLT).
