Good morning…
Yesterday’s post, “A text to remember,” was twenty-one years in the making, and many felt blessed by the words of our son. One seasoned male subscriber wrote: “Just wonderful, Sue!” Another young mom wrote: “Hi friend! I loved this one. It puts our world with two little ones in perspective….what we are doing is teaching them love and how to share love!” Another mom of young adult children wrote: “I so appreciated your son’s text to you and Steve. We have received the same message from all three of ours as they have entered the ‘real’ world. I do not say this to ‘boast’ but to humbly bow to Our Father who guided the upbringing of our children – first guiding us as parents, then stirring the hearts of our kids. We are all so vulnerable to many, many bad choices and decisions, and I know it is only from getting on knees time and again that we have been able to stand up and move forward! God takes our imperfections and turns them into lessons and strength for others!”
I wrote back to each subscriber and shared these words with the last: “You are so right. It is our dependence upon God as parents that allow God’s love to fill us first before overflowing into the lives of our children. If we could be ‘perfect parents’ on our own, we would love with limited, conditional human love, engendering our kids’ dependency upon us as parents, and encouraging them to hold our hand forever rather than grabbing the hand of God. Because we often flounder in the fear of ‘what if’s,’ life forces us to lean into the LORD, allowing Him to guide us as parents as we guide our kids. Children raised by the Spirit of God leave our home holding the LORD’s unconditionally loving hand as they walk well equipped into their uncertain future. What a blessing for all as we allow God’s Life to live through ours into the lives of our children.”
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit, Romans 15:13 (NIV),
Sue
