Good morning…
“I often think I don’t know how people endure the unimaginable,” my friend wrote, “but then I realize I actually really do know – only God. And I see evidence of that in so much devastating heartbreak time and time again. I think of that Steven Curtis Chapman quote, spoken after losing his young daughter suddenly in a tragic accident, his older son was the driver. ‘We have been to the bottom and have found it to be solid.’ My goodness the deep grief, but ultimate enduring comfort of God.”
What a strengthening comment from one trustworthy griever. We have been to the bottom and found it to be solid.
The “accident” my friend is referring to is the tragic death of Steven Curtis Chapman’s adopted daughter, Maria, who was accidentally struck and killed by her teenage brother’s SUV in the family’s driveway. Maria, who was 5 years old, died from her injuries. This faithful family has since channeled their grief into establishing Show Hope, a foundation that assists in the adoption of children, including those with special needs.
Another great gift to the world, “Cinderella” is a 2007 song from Curtis’ album This Moment. The song, played now during many daddy/daughter dances at weddings, is inspired by the Christian artist’s desire to not rush his young daughters but instead savor precious moments before they grew up too fast. The song takes on even deeper significance after Maria’s fatal accident in 2008. This song remains as a powerful reminder to cherish time with loved ones as we dance through life together.
Lord, you spoke strongly. The wind blew from your nose. Then the valleys of the sea appeared, and the foundations of the earth were seen (Psalm 18:15, NCV). When the winds of life blow wildly fierce and we find ourselves at the murky bottom, will we also discover solid ground?
Almighty God, today might you speak strongly to those exploring the solid bottom of your eternal presence?
Please be our intimate partner as life’s dance goes on.
