voice

Good morning…

In our reading for this week, our class discovered a unique quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on page 153 of Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer.

“Whatever your life’s work is, do it well… If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep the streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, like Shakespeare wrote poetry, like Beethoven composed music; sweep streets so well that all the host of Heaven and earth will have to pause and say, “Here lived a great street sweeper, who swept his job well.”

The Bible says it this way. Whatever you do, work at it wholeheartedly as though you were doing it for the Lord and not merely for people (Colossians 3:23, ISV).

Later in the day, I ran across a soulful singer, who sings like Michelangelo painted, a talented pianist, who plays like Shakespeare wrote, and a mesmerizing dancer, who dances like Beethoven composed. Might we be inspired by these three strangers serving the Lord wholeheartedly?

Remember each day, we lift our voice for the Lord and not merely for people.

…Sue…

P.S. Here are the lyrics brought to life.

LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING (excerpt)
James Weldon Johnson & John Rosamond Johnson

Lift every voice and sing,
Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the list’ning skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won . . .
