Good morning…
She handed me a “thank you” gift before leaving my living room at the end of the semester. A perfectly shaped bow held the stationery box together. I removed the bow to discover the profound wisdom of C.S. Lewis on each individual card.
“We have nothing, if not belief.”
“Joy is the serious business of heaven.”
“I gave in and admitted that God was God.”
“It is wonderful what you can do when you have to.”
“You are not a body. You have a body. You are a soul.”
“Where, except in the present, can the eternal be met?”
“Life is too deep for words so don’t try to describe it, just live it.”
“Friendship is… the sort of love one can imagine between angels.”
“True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of your self less.”
“Mine own eyes are not enough for me; I will see through the eyes of others.”
“Faith is the art of holding on to things in spite of your changing mood and circumstances.”
“Our prayers for others flow more easily than those for ourselves. This shows we are made to live by charity.”
Removing the perfectly shaped bow holding our life together, we discover wisdom to live.
Believe. Feel serious joy. Give in and admit God is God. Do wonderful things. Live as a soul in a body. Meet the eternal in the present. Live deeper than words. Love heavenly friendships. Think less of your self. See through the eyes of others. Amid changing mood and circumstances, hold on to faith. Pray for others then live by charity.
Your love, God, is my song, and I’ll sing it!
I’m forever telling everyone how faithful you are.
I’ll never quit telling the story of your love–
how you built the cosmos and guaranteed everything in it.
Your love has always been our lives’ foundation,
your fidelity has been the roof over our world, Psalm 89:1-2 (MSG),
