Good morning…
I just woke from a short, silly dream.
In my dream, I was driving a familiar road I travel most days. Slowly, meandering, half alert. Then a policeman pulled up behind me and pressed his siren twice, “beeeeep, beeeeep.” I pulled over to the side of the road, interestingly at peace.
Rolling down my window, I heard the officer say, “Mama, I pulled you over because your license plate registration sticker reads ‘Dec. 2022.’ I am citing you for living too far in the future.”
Strange, huh?
I got out of bed and, no joke, I walked barefoot to my car in the morning dark. I checked the sticker in the bottom right corner of my license plate. “Dec. 2021,” it reads. We change the registration on our cars each year before my husband’s birthday on Christmas Eve. So, following the annual ritual, in six weeks we will change the sticker to read “Dec. 2022.”
My dream whispers, “Do not live too far in the future. Savor each moment at hand.”
- Savor the Atlanta Braves winning the 2021 World Series last night, as many in our city are living out a childhood dream. (Also savor the fact that the Georgia Bulldogs are ranked number one.)
- Savor every moment with the spiritual direction client who requested a fire in the fire pit for our early morning time together.
- Savor this day of final preparation before the retreat speakers settle into our home for the weekend, bringing to life the 2019 rescheduled dream of our Awake To Wholeness Women’s Retreat.
- Savor each moment of the next six weeks before we wake up on Christmas morning 2021.
I sense the voice of Christ speaking through the policeman in my dream. “It’s urgent that you listen carefully to this: Anyone here who believes what I am saying right now and aligns himself with the Father, who has in fact put me in charge, has at this very moment the real, lasting life… This person has taken a giant step from the world of the dead to the world of the living” (John 5:24, MSG).
Listen.
Believe.
Align.
This very moment, now and forever, the real, lasting life of Christ is living in us.
