bird

Good morning…

One morning this week, I noticed a chubby bird sitting a yard away from our kitchen window. How did she get there, out on this precarious ledge? I went over to enjoy a photo shoot with this big fluffy baby, and I called my husband over to observe the cute creature with me. Unfazed by us, she sat there for a long, long time. Us watching, her waiting. Until, suddenly, she lifted up from her position of rest. Something unseen grabbed her full attention.

Sure enough, in the next second, the momma bird flew onto our porch railing. She walked up to her baby and tenderly fed her a mouth full of nourishment. Then, quietly and quickly, she flew away, in search of more sustenance for this child she so loves.

Might we all feel like this little baby bird sometimes? Out on a precarious ledge, vulnerable, hungry, alone. As we wait and we rest, the unseen One suddenly appears. Somehow, from somewhere, our loving Momma brings the mouthful of nourishment we need for this moment.

In treacherous times, we are more keenly aware that we cannot feed ourselves. Only God can give us what we need, mouthful by mouthful. Our only task is to sit, rest, wait until our loving Father brings us enough, moment by moment, day by day.

Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness (1 Peter 2:2-3, NLT).
