Good morning…
“My practice has always been morning and evening prayer,” our new-since-August headmaster at The Lovett School said as she spoke this week to our “Moms In Prayer” group. “The past several months this habit has been more challenging. Quieting my thoughts. Carving out the time. At night, staying awake.”
“But there is a gift someone gave me years ago that helps me remain grounded,” she continued. “This gift constantly sits on my bedside table. I see it each morning when I wake up and every night when I climb in bed. The framed saying reads: ‘If I make time for God, if I make space for God, God will make time and space for everything else.'”
No wonder she and I are quietly becoming soul friends.
“Loved your talk,” I wrote in the subject line of an email the next morning, thanking her for her raw, real message to the many praying moms gathered. Soon after she replied, “So grateful our paths have combined!”
“I too am grateful,” I responded. “Our paths have not just crossed, they have certainly combined. A God-thing for sure!”
“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met” (Matthew 6:30-33, MSG).
