simplify

Good morning…

My mind is reeling. I cannot sleep. Important needs play tug-o-war.

Getting out of bed, I am drawn to an encouragement card: “The surest way to simplify your life is to focus on what matters most.” I sit and ponder prayerfully, “Lord, what matters most?”

What matters is something far more interior: faith expressed in love (Galatians 5:6, MSG).

“Faith expressed in love – focus there.

P.S. Arriving in my inbox at 5:01 am, Henri Nouwen’s morning message for today colors in our shared vision with more exquisite detail.

“Those who can sit with their fellow man, not knowing what to say but knowing that they should be there, can bring life into a dying heart,” writes Nouwen. “Those who are not afraid to hold a hand in gratitude, to shed tears of grief, and to let a sigh of distress arise straight from the heart can break through paralyzing boundaries and witness the birth of a new fellowship, the fellowship of the broken.”

Then a friend’s text comes next. “I read this today, ‘The Benedictine nun Joan Chittister once said that we have the potential to be the human beat of the heart of God . . . Each one of us has a divine potential. We just need to stretch our mind, body and soul towards its light and do what we were born to do: love.”

Wow, what wonderful surround sound!
