Good morning…
A gorgeous table was set for our fun feast of friendship. As we gathered together our hearts sat in solidarity with one friend who was away visiting with her son and her 37-year-old daughter-in-law, a young couple bravely battling Elizabeth’s advanced colon cancer.
From our book Simple Faith by Margaret Silf we learned that “Soul friends are like midwives. They help bring Christ to birth in your life and your circumstances.”
Later, taking the nighttime shift of prayer, I expanded and deepened down into the words shared on page 48. I personalized the wisdom from the perspective of our friend, pondering in my journal the unique gift that is hers to give. In the middle of the dark night, I clarified this God-given vision for our special friend.
“I am called to be a midwife to my daughter-in-law. I am helping to bring Christ to birth in her life and circumstances. I can only assist in the birth. I don’t second-guess what form the baby will take. I let the birth happen in its own way and time. I’m not there to administer medicine to take away the pain but to be with my daughter-in-law as she deals with it. She is the one who does the laboring and I will rejoice with her at the miracle that is coming to pass.”
God’s miracle is coming to pass for Elizabeth, Graham and their three young children. God’s miracle is coming to pass with our soul friend as a midwife.
Never stop praying (1 Thessalonians 5:17, ERV).

P.S. Today Elizabeth begins her second round of chemo to continue shrinking her tumors. Please pray for HOPE to flood this young family’s heart and for supernatural peace, strength, and perseverance, tangible gifts of Christ being birthed in their life and in their hard, hard circumstances.
