Good morning…
As I wake early to travel to Ohio for a visit with my parents for my mom’s birthday, I think of the Anne Lamont quote: “I am all the ages I’ve ever been.”
Turning 84 years old today, my mom is all the ages she have ever been. She is a living bundle of memories from childhood, from college days, from years of raising us three kids with my 85 year old dad. Internally she keeps treasured souveniers from Norway, from Alaska, from China, from so many places visited throughout the world. She enjoys loyal friends and expanding family, kids, grandkids, with hopes of great grandkids for generations to come.
This particular season in my mom’s life has been a challenging one. Broken femur. Stroke. ICU. Ventilator. Rehab and slow recovery. Wheelchair. Walker. Then a second fall. More rehab, another gradual recovery. Yet inside my mom are all of the ages she has ever been, and on her 84th birthday I look forward to unwrapping together so many of God’s everlasting gifts.
Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God (Psalm 90:2, NIV). Before my mom was born eighty-four years ago today, God began nurturing our whole evolving world, from everlasting to everlasting.
Thanks be to our eternal God!
