Good morning…

I do not go to church each Christmas Eve because it is my holiday tradition. I do not drive ‘round and ‘round the parking deck searching for an open spot because I want to say “Merry Christmas” to my church friends. I do not cozy into the crowded pew because I expect to remember the minister’s message on Christmas morning.

I go to the sacred service because in the darkness my candle is lit. My scrawny, white candle receives light before God’s flame passes through me to ignite my neighbor’s candle. In silence, I watch my neighbor turn to the person by her side and he receives God’s holy fire to pass along.

One by one, candles are lit.
One by one, darkness bursts to light.
One by one, people are warmed by the glow of God.

The LORD lights my candle so that, through me, God can illuminate you. Now receive, turn, and share with others, who will receive, turn, and share. In this way, one candle at a time, God spreads His redeeming light to the entire world.

I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God… 2 Timothy 1:6 (NIV),
