Good morning…

“One day in the country is worth a month in the city,” whispers the rustic plaque hanging on the farm house wall. Why might this be?

When I think of “country,” natural words cascade from my mind to water my heart. Unplug. Fresh air. Big sky. Down-to-earth. A slower pace in wide open space. Within me “city” elicits a different list. Easy convenience. Crowded congestion. The cutting edge of progress. A silhouette of skyscrapers. Manmade high rise of new opportunity.

One is not good and one is not bad. In both the country and the city, God offers a plethora of daily gifts. For me, wherever I am in any given moment, I know time evaporates best when I give myself space to breathe, nurturing the soulful silence of solitude with God. If feel gratitude grow as a new insight dawns. Maybe the blessing of breathing room with God is why I so love walking to and from the horse farm near our home, beside the big bustling city of Atlanta, Georgia. In those mesmerizing moments, I am shepherded by the best of both worlds.

“One day in the country is worth a month in the city,” whispers the rustic plaque hanging on the farm house wall. In whatever setting you wake, how might this day magically evaporate as you are led forth into spaciousness with the Giver of every breath.

When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; he brought me into a spacious place. The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid (Psalm 118:5-6a, NIV).
