flood

Good morning…

Last weekend, I visited a friend in Black Mountain, North Carolina. I asked her to take me around to see places devastated by Hurricane Helene, and I listened as she shared her experience of the tremendous tragedy. The vicious storm struck in the middle of the night on September 27, 2024, (one year ago right now) leaving catastrophic flooding and damage across Asheville and Swannanoa, Black Mountain and Biltmore Village, along with neighboring mountain communities. An untold number of lives were lost and thousands were displaced. Driving around last weekend, grief still tainted the air.

My small snapshot of the area was magnified by an article my friend just sent yesterday. The professional photos and the video shared are moving, very moving. May these images prod us into prayer for all of those who are mourning lost loved ones, those who have endured one painful year.

On behalf of those rebuilding their lives, may we lift this request. God, be merciful to me. Be kind because my soul trusts in you. I have come to you for protection, while the trouble passes (Psalm 57:1, ERV).

Watching with our own eyes, may we continue to process our prayers. https://avlwatchdog.org/tropical-storm-helene-from-then-to-now-in-photos/
