hope

Good morning…

Cuddling into our couch with my first cup of coffee, I pull out the notes I jotted yesterday on the paper ticket ushering me home to Atlanta, Georgia from my parents’ place near Cleveland, Ohio. Coming back from my mom’s 84th birthday and my parent’s 62nd anniversary celebration, I watched a fascinating documentary on the short hour-plus flight. Jane Goodall: The Hope was filmed in 2020 when this “Mother Theresa for the environment” was 85-years-old herself. At the time, Jane was still spending 300 days out of the year traveling across the globe to empower others to put hope into action, inspiring people of all ages to make the world a better place. “Together we can, together we will, save the world!” is the motto for the “Roots and Shoots” programs which spark hope in young people all over the world.

Now drawn to explore further Jane’s “Roots and Shoots” ideas, I find my way to an inspiring video which invites each of us to do our daily part to live in greater harmony with God, nature and others as we tap into the innate potential implanted in our own head and own heart. Right from the start of our existence, we humans have been endowed with the creative power to make a difference.

God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature so they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, and, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.”

God created human beings; he created them godlike, reflecting God’s nature. He created them male and female.

God blessed them: “Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge! Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth” (Genesis 1:26-28, MSG).

God spoke.

God created.

God blessed each unique human being.

Now it is the responsibly of each one of us to allow the seed of God’s expanding hope to root and to shoot forth in our everyday lives. Settle in for the next four minutes to enjoy an inspiring video which bears witness to the regenerative Spirit of God at work within us.
