Good morning…
As the sun rises on this new day, there are layers and layers of crowded needs. Where do we begin? We deepen into a poem which has guided the lives of many for over a decade.

The Work of Christmas by Howard Thurman from Bread for the Preacher, Dec. 2009
When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among others,
To make music in the heart.

We notice so many lost, so many broken, so many hungry, so many imprisoned. God, how do we begin to do the hard work of Christmas?
The painful, pressing needs cannot be our focus. The God who knows how to meet these needs, this living, breathing God must be our focus. Lord, how would you have me begin your important work today?
Breathe into this question.
Sit with it.
Ponder.
Lord, how would you have me begin your important work today?
“So I say to you, ask and keep on asking, and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking, and you will find; knock and keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you” (Luke 11:9, AMP).
And as a door opens in front of our feet, we step-by-step our way forward with God into all of the healing the Almighty is orchestrating.
This, my friends, this is how the work of Christmas begins, remains, and evolves through us.
