Good morning…
Yesterday, in the morning, my friend sent me a picture of a page from her well-worn Bible verse flip calendar.
Psalm 90:12 (NIV) is brought to life. “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” A quote from Brennan Manning amplifies God’s encouragement. “In prayer Jesus slows us down, teaches us to count how few days we have, and gifts us with wisdom. He reveals to us that we are so caught up in what is urgent that we have overlooked what is essential.”
We all have decisions to make. Steve and I have a big one which needs tending to today. In this quiet moment Jesus teaches, reveals, gifts us with wisdom. “Don’t get caught up in what is urgent right now. Attend to what is essential for eternity.”
Urgent. Right now. Strong, mixed emotions fill my heart. In this precious moment, I pray. I slow down. I lift up my inner eyes to broaden my view. Fresh awareness dawns: How few days we are given on earth.
I see close up. I’m caught up. I’m hooked. I’m captured by non-essentials. With a panoramic perspective, God sees both now and forever.
Lord, teach us to value each day. Cultivate your wisdom in our humble hearts. Help us to understand anew: our Spirit-led decisions today expand into your abundant blessings forever and ever.
Yesterday, in the evening, my friend sent me another picture. “I have never known my husband’s daily calendar to match up with mine.”
Again, Psalm 90:12 is brought to life, this time in The Living Bible translation. “Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should.”
I sense God teaching us enduring wisdom. “Plan for the future, but don’t miss the treasure of today.”
