Good morning…
“The essence of Christian spirituality is following Christ on a journey of personal transformation,” explains David G. Benner in Sacred Companions: The Gift of Spiritual Friendship & Direction. “The distant land to which we are called . . . is the new creature into which Christ wishes to fashion us – the whole and holy person that finds his or her uniqueness, identity and calling in Christ.”
If you have heard Jesus and have been taught by Him according to the truth that is in Him, then you know to take off your former way of life, your crumpled old self…corrupted by deceitful desire and lust— to take a fresh breath and to let God renew your attitude and spirit. Then you are ready to put on your new self, modeled after the very likeness of God: truthful, righteous, and holy (Ephesians 4:21-24, VOICE).
Might we discover “if . . . then” living?
If . . .
If you have heard Jesus with your own ears. If your own mind has been taught by Him. If your own soul is drawn to the truth that is in Him.
Then . . .
Then you take off your former, self-protective way of life. Then you surrender your exhausted, crumpled old self. Then you are freed from deceitful desire and released from your lust for “me, mine, and more.”
Take a fresh breath.
Then you let God renew your attitude and spirit. Then you put on your new self. Then you model the very likeness of God, as Christ lives through you.
Now all of us, with our faces unveiled, reflect the glory of the Lord as if we are mirrors; and so we are being transformed, metamorphosed, into His same image from one radiance of glory to another, just as the Spirit of the Lord accomplishes it (2 Corinthians 3:18, VOICE).
If . . . then . . . take a fresh breath . . . let God, let God transform you. The Spirit of our living Lord is accomplishing radiant metamorphoses!
