Good morning…

I just happened upon a Scripture verse that sums up our Source of eros, life-giving energy. 1 John 5:6-8 in The Message translation says: Jesus—the Divine Christ! He experienced a life-giving birth and a death-killing death. Not only birth from the womb, but baptismal birth of his ministry and sacrificial death. And all the while the Spirit is confirming the truth, the reality of God’s presence at Jesus’ baptism and crucifixion, bringing those occasions alive for us. A triple testimony: the Spirit, the Baptism, the Crucifixion. And the three in perfect agreement.

Now we become witnesses to this perfect agreement: As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:16-17, NIV).

Later in Jesus’ ministry, transfiguration occurs (a complete change of form or appearance into a more beautiful or spiritual state) and similar words are spoken: Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here…” While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” (Matthew 17:4-5, NIV).

Then at Jesus’ cruxifixction, we hear a similar pronouncement by a man who was previously a persecutor: The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!” (Mark 15:38-39, NIV).

All of these bold, first hand accounts beg the question, “What do you say about Jesus, God’s primary Source of life-giving energy?”

By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place (Hebrews 10:20, NLT). As we get up from the communion table, nourished by the body and blood of the risen Christ, we are invited to establish our home with God in the Most Holy Place.
