magnet

Good morning…

A seventy year old blog subscriber from southwest Washington state recently sent me this magnet with a kind note. “Don’t tell God how BIG your storm is, tell the storm how BIG your GOD is.” I have lived with this small gift and loved it immensely, and at the same time I have sensed three things happening.

First, I have grown to learn that, for me, this statement is not an “either/or” but a “both/and.”

We live in intimate relationship with an all-powerful God who says, “Do tell Me how BIG your storm is.” Do tell Me the fears on your mind, the hurts in your heart, the worries wrapping around your soul. Do tell Me what keeps you up at night, what drives you to self-protect, what threatens to steal your peace, love, and joy.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.] (Matthew 11:28, AMPC).

Jesus Christ is [eternally changeless, always] the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8, AMP) and, at the same time, our understanding of the Father/Son/Spirit is always changing. Through our ongoing conversation with the living Christ, measureless grace is being unveiled more and more, bit by bit, day by day. So here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Leave all your cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord, and measureless grace will strengthen you (Psalm 55:22, TPT).

So then, prepare your hearts and minds for action! Stay alert and fix your hope firmly on the marvelous grace that is coming to you. For when Jesus Christ is unveiled, a greater measure of grace will be released to you (1 Peter 1:13, TPT).

Second, the Spirit of God prepared my heart and mind for action.

I felt drawn to pass along this special magnet to a friend who is in the middle of a very strong storm. I wrote a loving note of solidarity and slipped it in her mailbox with the magnet. I shared with her my “both/and” thought. Our BIG GOD whispers: “Do tell Me how big your storm is and, at the same time, lessen the powerful influence of this storm by telling it how BIG I AM.”

Finally, now I share with each one of you this empowering wisdom And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7, NIV).
