walk

Good morning…

“I saw your walking post,” she texted yesterday, “and then I came across this book on my shelf.” Walk in a Relaxed Manner: Life Lessons from the Camino by Joyce Rupp.

“Oh wow!” I replied. “I love Joyce Rupp. Might I borrow your book?”

“I’ve ordered you your very own…it seemed fitting,” she kindly texted. “Should have it tomorrow.”

“You are so sweet! Thank you. I can’t wait,” I soaked in her generosity.

“It’s a really lovely book chocked full of wise bits and bites…a well written, interesting adventure as well as deep spiritual truths that she and her companion (Tom) learned and digested along the way,” then she shared this one tidbit.

“At its heart, the journey of each life is a pilgrimage, through unforeseen sacred places that enlarge and enrich the soul,” writes John O’Donohue.

Dictionary.com tells us that pilgrimage means “a journey, especially a long one, made to some sacred place as an act of religious devotion.” Travel. Trek. Quest. Tour. Trip. Voyage. Each a pilgrim, we journey through unforeseen sacred places with God every day, the Spirit enlarging and enriching our souls.

“All the way to heaven is heaven,” says Catherine of Siena.

A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.

I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth!

He will not let you stumble;
the one who watches over you will not slumber (Psalm 121:1-3, NLT).

Leaning heavily on the help of our Lord – who watches over, never slumbers – we learn to walk through our daily lives in a relaxed manner. Unforeseen sacred places open before us.
