emotions

Good morning…

Preparing to see Inside Out 2 in the theatre, I re-watched the original 2015 version of Inside Out. Inside Out tracks the inner workings of the mind of Riley, a young girl who struggles to adapt to her family’s move, as five personified emotions guide her thoughts and her actions.

One of my favorite parts of the movie is captured in the clip below. After the wooden rocket holding all future dreams is destroyed, Joy tries to cheer up Bing Bong, Riley’s imaginary friend. In this situation, Joy has no power. Then Sadness sits down beside Bing Bong, and they have an honest conversation. After sharing a tender hug and shedding some candy tears, Bing Bong is freed to move forward.

“How did you do that?” asks Joy.

“I don’t know,” responds Sadness. “He was sad, so I listened.”

Sorrow beats foolish laughter; embracing sadness somehow gladdens our hearts (Ecclesiastes 7:3, VOICE).

When have you personally experienced the healing power of Ecclesiastes 7:3?
