Good morning…
This week we have discovered the beautiful art of murmuration. Allowing space in our togetherness, God empowers us as we flock together. I was reminded of this concept as I read the introductory page of a study being offered at our church this semester, Breathe: Making Room for Sabbath by Priscilla Shirer.
Priscilla writes a dedication to her close friends Kay Arthur and Beth Moore, two faithful teachers who have deeply impacted the spiritual growth of our generation, two women Priscilla has creatively collaborated with for years. Priscilla shares these honoring words on the first page of her new book:
“For teaching me to say ‘No.’
For inspiring me to put first things first.
For showing me by your example the importance of margin and Sabbath.
For reminding me that doing everything is not the same as doing the best things.
Thank you. You have taught me that life is better when it has time to breathe.
I love you, Priscilla”
As we savor this Sabbath, may we say “No” to doing everything, flocking together to put first things first, to create margin, and to allow life’s best things time to breathe. Making space to reflect, if you feel drawn to review our posts from this week, touch on the “Previous” link above today’s message.
Do you hear Lady Wisdom calling? Can you hear Madame Insight raising her voice? She’s taken her stand at First and Main, at the busiest intersection. Right in the city square where the traffic is thickest, she shouts, “You—I’m talking to all of you, everyone out here on the streets…I’m telling you how to live well, I’m telling you how to live at your best. My mouth chews and savors and relishes truth—” (Proverbs 8:1-5, MSG).
