Good morning…
“I love this scene from ‘Up’,” a friend wrote after yesterday’s blog post, One Favorite Movie Clip. “It’s so dear. It reminds me of this.”
She proceeded to share the link below of 78-year-old Joni Mitchell blessing adoring fans with her beloved hit “Both Sides Now.” Researching her surprise performance at the Newport folk festival in Rhode Island, I learned that Joni, the iconic singer-songwriter, stepped onto the stage for the first time since suffering a debilitating brain aneurysm in 2015. An abnormal swelling in an artery in the brain, Mitchell’s aneurysm nearly stole her life, leaving her unable to get out of bed, unable to walk or to talk, much less to sing or to play the guitar. In an interview with CBS News following Sunday’s show, Joni described the experience of the last few years as “a return to infancy almost. You have to relearn everything.”
Displaying immense will and grit, Joni continues to remind us: “There’s something lost and something gained in living every day.”
By enduring all of these things, you will find not loss but gain—not death but authentic life (Luke 21:19, VOICE).
