threshold

Good morning…

Anyone who knows me knows that I love hosting classes in our home, semester by semester. Part of the fun for me is being always on the lookout for the next read God will lead us to explore. Usually a hidden gem, I am drawn like a magnet to the book of God’s own choosing. This spring semester is no different. Over the years, we have loved studying other treasures written by Paula D’Arcy, namely Gift of The Red Bird: The Story of a Divine Encounter and Seeking with All My Heart: Encountering God’s Presence Today. This spring semester we will enjoy discussing the wisdom gleed from Sacred Threshold: Crossing the Inner Barrier to a Deeper Love.

“I turned a new page in my journal,” Paula explains on page 53. “I wrote, God is not an idea. I let those words confront me. God is a reality. A real Power. And I exist because of that Power, but I have to be willing to know it. Just a belief in God would not take me far enough. I wanted to live increasingly aware of the hidden force of God.”

“Then it became clear: The access point I sought was the present moment,” notices Paula. “If I were always living in my mind, always rushing, always doing, then I would consistently miss the subtle movement of the Spirit. I needed the spaces in between my actions to enlarge. I needed pauses. My ear had to be bent to a different ground.”

My ear was bent to a different holy patch of ground when I paused the first weekend in December at our women’s retreat at Ignatius House Retreat Center. That is when I met this book, and the Spirit nudged, “Sue, this is the one.”

Now I invite you to consider this weekly study along with a whole host of other possibilities offered through our Women’s Ministry at Northside Church. One class offers a virtual option for people who live out of town. Another meets just once a month. Still another choice offers a hands-on opportunity to meet an important need in our community. Most of the classes meet at church. Some mornings, some afternoons, some nights. Beth Moore, Jennifer Rothschild, and Jen Wilkins are some of the authors joining Paula this semester. So touch on this link and explore new ways to grow with God this winter/spring semester. (Please note that with the current COVID surge, we have postponed the start date for many of our studies.)

My child, will you treasure my wisdom? Then, and only then, will you acquire it. And only if you accept my advice and hide it within will you succeed. So train your heart to listen when I speak and open your spirit wide to expand your discernment—then pass it on to your sons and daughters. Yes, cry out for comprehension and intercede for insight (Proverbs 2:1-3, TPT).
