Good morning…
When I am stirred from sleep in the wee hours of the night, I wake our nine pound dog sleeping beside us. After she turns over and I rub her belly a bit, I climb out of bed, inviting Gracie to join me. When I set her onto the floor, her tiny toe nails clip, clip, clip to the door and she lets me know she needs to go outside. Trotting down the front steps, she invites my toes to join her paws in the damp, cool grass. If not for our dog, I would rarely stand in the dark dew, breathing in the blessings of the nighttime air.
I have just come inside from our short, successful trek to the front yard. Tonight, the still silence was so beautifully loud, pierced by the song of one insomniac bird. Impossible to miss, this creature was singing boldly, belting out various notes with differing rhythms. Unstoppable. Undeniable. Unhindered. Filling the darkness with a song of praise, from the bottom of one feathered heart burst a joyful melody.
My voice. Your voice. Every created voice is designed to do the same, piercing life’s darkness with a grateful song.
When Jesus was starting down the Mount of Olives, his large crowd of disciples were happy and praised God because of all the miracles they had seen… Some Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, make your disciples stop shouting!” But Jesus answered, “If they keep quiet, these stones will start shouting.” Luke 19:37,39 (CEV),
