Good morning…

I am drinking coffee from a beloved new mug. The interior is cobalt blue and the exterior of the black mug bears a Helen Keller quote: “I would rather walk with a friend in the dark, than alone in the light.” I received the mug all wrapped up in pretty paper tucked inside a transparent gift bag, tied with curly cue ribbons of light blue and brown. The card accompanying my surprise gift had the same saying etched on the front, “I would rather walk with a friend in the dark, than alone in the light,” and the following words were printed on the inside of the card beneath a handwritten, personal note of thanks.

“These past six years have forced me to walk down some dark and difficult paths. If I had to do it on my own, I would not have had the endurance to survive. Thankfully, you believed in me and were there encouraging me as I took my next steps. I am sad I cannot remember every specific thing you have done for me. But I will never forget the way you made me feel and the way you stepped forward. I always knew you were there, standing ready = on call.

Never doubt the power your prayers and presence have had in my survival. I hope that when you use your mug you will be reminded of the difference you made in my life. Know how thankful I am to have you walk this journey with me = it truly is better to ‘walk with a friend in the dark, than alone in the light.'”

I savor each sip of my girlfriend’s gratitude along with my morning coffee.

Who walked to the house of God in company, Psalm 55:13b-15 (AMP),
