Good morning…
Unable to gather for our weekly class, she and I walked around the public park. We found our place into the spacious stream of smiling people and friendly dogs. During this strange season of social distancing, it was the perfect way to unpack our deep thoughts. Slow. Soulful. Simple. After finishing our sunny stroll she said, “I thought of you when I read a quote this morning.”
“Will you read it to me out loud?” I asked, before we climbed into our separate cars to drive to our separate homes.
“And the people stayed home,” her voice sounded sweet. “And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.”
“And the people healed,” she continued her reflective reading. “And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.”
Her voice breathed in and out to a quiet cadence. “And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.”
After a few moments, “That’s beautiful,” I said. “Will you forward to me a copy to share?”
Of course, she shared. And, of course, I share. Now, you are free to share yourself.
God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love (Ephesians 4:15-16, MSG).
During this slow, soulful, simple season, let’s find calm, creative, collaborative ways to… Carry each other’s burdens and so live out the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2, PHILLIPS).
