Good morning…
If you have ever been to PAWkids, you know Mike Mike. Humble and gentle, with a huge heart, Mike Mike is around to help in any way needed. On Saturday morning, Mike Mike found his mom dead in her bed, stabbed in her neck and her head. What a horrendous tragedy!
“This family is so ingrained in Grove Park,” LaTonya (founder and director of PAWkids) told me yesterday. “Everyone helps them, and they help everyone freely. Miss Tracey was a pillar in the community. She will be missed by her large family and her many, many friends.”
I felt grateful to spend two hours yesterday morning at a service celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with the Grove Park community. Spirit-filled music. Powerful talks from community leaders. What a beautifully bonding experience. We ended our passionate, inspiring time together with a responsive prayer. In part, we read these words aloud:

After the gathering, I texted Mike Mike. “Can I pick you up for group tomorrow?” (We are both regulars at our weekly therapeutic community group.)
“I just lost my mom,” he replied simply.
“I know,” I texted. “I am so sad for you. Can I pick you up and bring you to group tomorrow?”
“I will come next week,” he said. “I’m still going through my mom’s stuff.”
“Okay. We will miss you. If you change your mind and want to come, please just text me,” I responded. “I love you, Mike Mike.”
To his “Ok.” I added a heart emoji.
Mike Mike will not be forgotten; he will be fortified through this devastating loss. Lord, this is my deepest hope and prayer.
Stoop down and reach out to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ’s law (Galatians 6:2, MSG).
…Sue…
