Good morning…

In seven short Bible verses, we move from the freedom of our true self, Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame, (Genesis 2:25) to the covering of our false self, Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves (Genesis 3:7). What happened in these seven life-changing verses?

David Benner sums up our human drama in the book we are studying on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. “The Genesis account of the temptation of Adam and Eve helps us to understand how we become the lies we choose to believe. The story tells of a serpent that, knowing our first parents wanted to be like God, offered them a way to achieve this. Their desire to be like God was not in itself a problem. For God had created them in the Divine image and wanted them to be like God. However, God’s gift of likeness was quite different from that offered by the deceiver. The core of the lie that Adam and Eve believed was that they could be like God without God. But without God the most we can ever do is make ourselves into a god.” (The Gift of Being Yourself, 72-73)

The world equates freedom with independence; God encourages freedom through daily surrender.
