Good morning…

The video I posted yesterday of two Asian children performing a moving rendition of “You Raise Me Up” means profoundly more to me now than it would have before. You may or may not know, but this school year our family is hosting a fifteen year old Chinese student. With our oldest two kids away at college, in August, Kiki settled into an upstairs bedroom beside the rooms of our sixteen year old daughter and our fourteen year old son. Kiki is adorable, quiet and gentle spirited. Introverted, she says very little, often reserving her thoughts until she is asked a direct question. Keeping her voice to herself is Kiki’s natural way, which I have learned is common for most young girls raised in China.

Watching and re-watching yesterday’s video, I am struck by the utter contrast in expression. I see this little, bright eyed Asian girl singing her heart out with a talented young boy. I am moved to tears, again and again. These children are collaborating with the Creator of the universe.

Through innocent voices handcrafted from heaven, the piercing power of God is unmistakable. In awe, onlookers begin to sway to the Spirit. They smile, they clap, and they respond with their whole being. The entire crowd is swept into the divine dance, orchestrated by the LORD using two small children. My eyes and my ears, my mind and my heart experience a great truth: we are not designed to keep our unique voice to our self. The world needs us to sing God’s power, sparking others to sway to the Spirit, inspiring hearers to clap and respond, inviting joy with our whole being until the entire crowd is swept into the divine dance.

With your very own hands you formed me;
now breathe your wisdom over me so I can understand you.
Now comfort me so I can live, really live;
your revelation is the tune I dance to, Psalm 119:73, 77 (MSG),
