Good morning…

She is becoming more aware of the blessings bestowed by her cancer.

My friend wrote: “In this time, I do find myself noticing and listening to the birds in the trees off my bedroom balcony more. The feeder my husband keeps full has surprisingly been filled with yellow finches all week. (She told me later she has never before seen a gold finch out her bedroom window.) And I read this about the presence of the American gold finch:

It is a sure sign of exuberance, liveliness and enthusiasm in your current world. They are here to remind you to enjoy life and savor each moment for the joy that is in it. Perhaps its simply time to celebrate who you are, your accomplishments or just for the sheer fun of it. You are reminded that life is for living – and that each moment you waste on sending forth negative emotions such as fear, hatred and anger are moments that are forever lost. Find joy in the now.

Despite my frustrations, the finches remind me of this. I am quietly reflecting and finding that I am very thankful for each day that has gone before as well as each new day that comes. It has given me time to see what a full and rich life I have been so graciously given–and prompts an excitement for rising with more strength in the future when these treatments are finished.”

Can you tell why I love being with my friend on this life-giving journey?

After looking at the way things are on this earth, here’s what I’ve decided is the best way to live: Take care of yourself, have a good time, and make the most of whatever job you have for as long as God gives you life. And that’s about it. That’s the human lot. Yes, we should make the most of what God gives, both the bounty and the capacity to enjoy it, accepting what’s given and delighting in the work. It’s God’s gift! God deals out joy in the present, the now. It’s useless to brood over how long we might live, Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 (MSG),
