Good morning…
With an influential runoff election, today is a big day in our state of Georgia. Yesterday in my church email, I received this message from a person in an organization called the Georgia Citizens for Trump.
“Hi Sue,” said the mass email, “President Trump just declared the Georgia January 5th runoff as illegal and invalid. Instead of wasting time voting since it may be rigged, key supporters plan to win by blocking the certification of the election before the Georgia runoff can be counted. Any Republicans who do not boycott the runoff give it credence making it more difficult for Trump supporters to block the certification of the election. In addition to the boycott, supporter buses plan to depart Georgia today and tomorrow for a march on Washington Weds morning as President Trump has requested. While President Trump is reluctantly flying in today for a few hours to appease certain questionable politicians, true supporters understand control of the WH will be lost if the election and runoff are certified so President Trump hopes you understand and focus on what he is most actively posting.”
As I have told you before, I feel grateful to not be a Democrat or a Republican. I like my God-given freedom to research each candidate during every election and prayerfully cast my votes as I feel led. I love that in our country every person of voting age has our own handful of votes to cast each election season, discerning which leaders we are drawn to support.
To me, the mass email above seems to put Republicans in a terrible bind. If “true supporters” follow this plea to stay home from the polls “instead of wasting time voting” since today’s runoff “may be rigged,” how can Republicans hope to win either Senate seat? Is it possible for one person to declare a mandatory runoff illegal and invalid before it even happens? If people don’t vote their chosen candidates can’t win. What are lifetime Republicans to do?
Here is where a simple message sent by a friend in Florida comes into play for me.
The whole entire Bible can be summed up in these two words: God wins. Regardless of the outcome of this runoff election, God wins.
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails (Proverbs 19:21, NIV).
Plan and plot all you want—nothing will come of it. All your talk is mere talk, empty words, because when all is said and done, the last word is Immanuel—God-With-Us (Isaiah 8:10, MSG).
Then Job replied to the Lord: “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted” (Job 42:1-2, NIV).
Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions. With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go (or “He will cut a straight path before you.”) (Proverbs 3:3-5, TPT).
Every single day, but especially on this runoff election day in Georgia, I am grateful for Immanuel, God-With-Us. No purpose of God’s will be thwarted. It is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. As we trust in the Lord completely, we will not rely on opposing opinions. If, with all our heart, we rely on God to guide us, then Immanuel will lead every decision we make. Becoming intimate with our ever-present Sustainer, the LORD will lead us wherever we go.
Through the overgrowth of division and dissension, God is cutting a straight path before our two trusting feet.
